Privacy policy

TimesOwl is multiplication fact practice for children, with parents and guardians as the audience for this site. We built it for short, calm practice sessions — not for collecting a social profile on your child.

This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and the choices parents have. If anything here is unclear, email us at the address at the bottom.

We do not sell personal information. We do not run third-party advertising or tracking pixels on TimesOwl. We do not ask children for email addresses, phone numbers, or a public display name to practice.

Practice can start anonymously in the browser. When a parent creates an account, that account is the parent’s login — it holds the learner’s progress on our servers. We treat the person who registers as the responsible adult for that data.

TimesOwl is designed so the adult is in charge of identity on the service:

• Anonymous practice uses a first-party session cookie tied to a learner record with no email or password.
• Registering or signing in adds your email and a password to that same learner record so progress is not lost when the browser changes.
• We do not offer separate child logins or child-facing account settings in this version of the product.
• Deleting or closing an account (when available) is a parent action — contact us if you need help before self-serve tools ship.

To run spaced-repetition practice we store learning data, not a feed of everything your child does online:

• Session identifiers: a hashed session token in our database and a matching http-only cookie in the browser.
• Practice history: which multiplication facts were shown, answers, timing, and scheduling fields used to pick the next fact.
• Optional account fields after registration: email address, password hash, and an optional display name you choose.
• Anonymous learners: we set a purge date about one month after creation if the record is never registered.
• Server logs: basic request metadata our host may keep for security and uptime (see Hosting below).

We do not ask for a child’s photo, contacts, precise location, or government ID. We do not plug in third-party analytics scripts that follow users across other sites.

If we measure usage, we use first-party analytics on our own domain — event counts and funnels we store ourselves, not embedded trackers from ad networks. We do not use those measurements to profile children for advertising.

Marketing pages do not include social “like” pixels or remarketing tags.

We share data only with service providers that help us run the app (for example hosting and email delivery), under contracts that limit use to providing the service. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect safety and security.

Passwords are stored hashed. Session tokens are stored hashed; the raw cookie value is not kept in the database. We retain practice data while the account is active and apply the anonymous purge rule above for unregistered learners.

You can practice without registering until you choose to save progress long-term. You can ask us for access to or deletion of data tied to your account by emailing us. We will verify that the request comes from the registered parent before acting.

We will post updates on this page and change the “Last updated” date. Material changes for an existing account will be communicated in product or by email when practical.
